10 weeks

At this point of your pregnancy, the crown-to-rump length of your developing baby is 1.25 to 1.68 inches. It is now easier to tell how much the baby weighs since he is beginning to put on some weight. Your baby weighs approximately 5 grams and is the size of a small plum!
  • Baby is now called a fetus in "medical terms". You, however, may have chosen the name "peanut," "angel," "jumping bean" or simply "miracle."

  • The most critical part of your infant's development is complete. Now you are headed into a period of rapid growth.

  • While a bit strange to envision, your baby's head is now about half its length - Soon the rest of the body's growth will catch up but this area is prepared to keep up with the rapid brain development!

  • Eyelids fuse shut and irises begin to develop - Eye color is also determined by this point.

  • Placenta begins to function this week or next - The placenta is the organ responsible for both the provision of nutrients along with the removal of waste to keep your baby growing strong!

  • Thursday, August 18, 2011

    Week 8

    • Cartilage and bones begin to form - At the end of this week your baby will have already completed 1/5th of the journey 'til his birthday!
    • The basic structure of the eye is well underway - The position is more "newborn" like already!
    • The tongue begins to develop
    • Intestines move out of the umbilical cord into the abdomen.
    • Body grows and makes room - Two months along and this little one is growing inside and out by leaps and bounds!
    • The fingers and toes have appeared but are webbed and short
    • Baby's length (crown to rump) is 0.61 inch (1.6cm) and weight is 0.04 ounce (1gm)

    Your Baby

This week, your little tadpole is starting to look a little bit more human. Other exciting developments include:

    • Your baby's eyelids, ears, upper lip and the tip of his soon-to-be adorable button nose are forming.

    • Junior will also sprout webbed fingers and toes this week—which you'll be well aware of in a few months, as baby starts early gymnastics classes inside you.

    • Baby's tiny heart has separated into four distinct chambers and is really ticking now—at a rate of 150 beats per minute. That's more than twice your resting heart rate (even when Brad Pitt is on the screen).

    • Your baby is now a little more than 1/2 inch long, about the size of the rock in Eva Longoria's engagement ring, and is about as heavy as the check Tony Parker wrote to pay for it.

Pregnancy Week 8: All About Baby

No wonder you're excited to tell someone about your pregnancy. Your baby is no longer a mass of cells, but he's looking more and more like a miniature baby-to-be. During your 8th week of pregnancy, your baby's face is becoming more defined: eyelids have formed, his nose is beginning to protrude, and his upper lip is taking shape. Where there once were only stubs, fingers and toes are starting to develop from his arms and legs. His heart is beating quickly and strong inside his tiny body.

    How Big Is Baby?

Your baby-to-be is now just over a 1/2 inch long. He's a little bigger than a raspberry.

    7 weeks

    • Elbows form - Again, taking a peek inside you could see your baby's fascination with bending and flexing. Later you will swear you can enlist your child as the star of the next "Karate Kid" movie!
    • Fingers start to develop - These digits often become your baby's first toy!
    • Feet start to appear with tiny notches for the toes - It is fascinating that at less than a half inch, your little guy (or gal) already is leaving "footprints" on your heart!
    • Ears eyes and nose start to appear - Although they may resemble an alien life form, these all "shift" soon enough into a more normal appearance.
    • Intestines start to form in the umbilical cord - Did you know that initially the intestines are not formed inside your baby's body?
    • Teeth begin to develop under the gums - Thankfully, right now you won't be dealing with teething pain!

    Your Baby

    • This week your baby's brain is growing at a mind-boggling 100 cells per minute within a see-through skull. If you could peer inside, you'd see those tiny brain cells growing and growing and growing (about as quickly as you feel like yours are shrinking and shrinking and shrinking with your "pregnancy brain"!). More high points include:

    • Your baby's face is becoming more defined this week. A tiny mouth hole (which will be ready to wail before you know it!), tongue, nostrils and ear indentations are visible. His or her eyes are wide open, but he doesn't have irises (the colored part) yet.

    • Baby's arm buds are growing. At this point they look more like microscopic ping-pong paddles than arms. Baby's leg buds are also forming and will look like tiny paddles by the end of the week.

    • The umbilical cord—the connection between your baby and the placenta—is now visible.

    • Your baby is now between 1/3 and 1/4 inch long—about the length of a Tic Tac and about as heavy as an eyelash. While that sounds tiny, he or she is approximately 10,000 times bigger than at conception. Crazy, huh?

Pregnancy Week 7: All About Baby

Your baby-to-be has been busy this week. His brain is continuing to develop. The circulatory system becomes more complex as lungs begin to form.
During your 7th week of pregnancy, Baby's face is taking shape with his eyes showing some pigmentation, visible ear holes, miniscule nostrils, and an indentation where his mouth will appear. His digestive system and stomach are starting to form. His arms and legs are growing, but his fingers and toes have not yet developed.

    How Big Is Baby?

This week, Baby is about the size of a blueberry!

    6 weeks

Your tiny manatee has a busy calendar chock full of epic growth and development this week.
The very beginnings of wee hand plates and the early formations of what will be their fingers are already visible! And of course their genius brain is still growing like - well, a brain on fire.
The bottom half of your tiny sea-creature's body will not develop quite as fast, so they're starting to look a little bit like a quasi-mermaid/man with their hand plates on top and flipper legs and tail.
In the past weeks, your sea-monkey has been very curled up with their head and tail in close proximity, but this week their trunk and neck are beginning to grow and straighten as their tail recedes into its resting position in the back.
Even though your little one is only 6 weeks old, they're already capable of demonstrating reflex responses to touch!

    Your Baby

    • This week starts a period of rapid cellular development for your baby-to-be, who looks like a mini tadpole, with a tiny head and tail. His or her eyes, ears and mouth have begun to form (though they're a little more Discovery Channel "creatures of the sea" documentary than Gerber Baby at this point). Other exciting milestones include:

    • Your baby's heart is now beating to a regular beat, although it's still too faint to hear.

    • His or her arm buds are just beginning to, well, bud. They look like teensy swollen bumps at this point. In a few days, they'll resemble itsy-bitsy flippers.

    • Your baby has grown to 1/8 inch long—about the size of one of the chocolate sprinkles on your last cupcake (and your last ice cream cone, and your last sundae and your last giant cookie ... maybe there is something to those rumors about pregnancy cravings!).

    5 weeks

The changes to your growing embryo are not quite as drastic this week as they've been in the last few weeks.
Growth is now focused on your wee manatee's head, which is developing and growing much more rapidly than the rest of their tiny body. This is because their amazing brain is undergoing some very critical changes in order to effectively regulate their heart rate, blood circulation, and other vital functions.

As for the rest of their tiny body, what were only limb buds last week have grown into wee limb flippers this week and their sea-creature tail is even more visible.

Amazingly, within five short weeks of existence, your hard-working miniature manatee is already sporting the rudimentary forms of their liver, pancreas, lungs, stomach and nasal pits while their heart is increasing its circulatory capacity.

And if you were wondering about size, your sea-monkey has grown to an impressive 5 mm in length. Growing like this only happens once in a lifetime!

    Excited!!!

I couldn't believe it so I took 2 tests then of course one at my doctor's office too!
Another baby Beach should be here around March 28, 2012.

    5 weeks

Your BabyYour baby's microscopic heart begins to beat this week—although it won't be detectable with one of those cool Dopplers for a few weeks, so you'll have to wait a little longer to hear that satisfying "whoosh-whoosh" you're so anxious for. Here's what else is under construction:

With the beating of the heart, blood will begin to circulate throughout the body. Your baby's first organ system will be up and running!

The beginnings of the brain; the cardiovascular, nervous and reproductive systems; as well as all other major systems are under way.

Your baby's new digs—the amniotic sac and the placenta (aka the hotel and the restaurant)—are still forming at this point. (Maybe you should send a housewarming gift.)

All that high-speed development and your baby is only 2 millimeters long—about the size of a sesame seed (check one out next time you're chowing down on a bagel—you won't believe how tiny it is!).

Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from him. Psalm 127:3

    Coming July 17, 2011

    Your Body
This is when it all begins.

Once Mini Me or He implants in your uterus and that placenta starts to grow, your heart starts beating more quickly. You might be putting in an extra 15 beats per minute (even when Taye Diggs isn't onscreen). Until your blood volume catches up to all that extra pumping (which it won't do for a number of weeks), you're likely to feel tired most of the time. Sounds like a good reason to schedule a siesta!

A lot of that extra blood is heading straight for your breasts, resulting in tenderness and the tendency for your nipples to show ... through your down jacket. (Another early pregnancy sign: Your cervix is softening and changing color. But if this is something you're able to notice on your own, we don't want to know about it.)

    Your Baby
Your microscopic embryo is already hard at work this week creating the placenta, umbilical cord and the basics of his or her body.

The embryo is now made of three layers that will transform into the different parts of your baby's body. The endoderm, or inner layer, will become your baby's intestines, liver and lungs. The middle layer, or mesoderm, will become your baby's heart, sex organs, muscles, bones, and kidneys, and the ectoderm, or outermost layer, will develop into your baby's hair, skin, eyes, and nervous system. Believe it or not, your baby is already starting to look like a tiny little being (not necessarily a human being) complete with a head, a mouth opening and a primitive brain and heart.

By the end of this week, your baby measures about 1/25 inch long, about the size of a period (like the one at the end of this sentence, not the one you just missed).

    Weight check

Well week 16 has brought be in at 120 lbs. I guess that is a 6 pound weight gain thus far. I hope that isn't going to be the pace that I keep up though!

    Thursday, March 20, 2008

What week 14 entails for the baby

Swimming, tumbling around in that nice warm amniotic fluid, waving his little arms and playing with his tiny fists, kicking and stretching, yawning and sucking on his thumb, your baby is keeping busy. As long as he's not asleep, that is, because he sleeps most of the time. Did you know that he can move his fingers independently of each other already, because his webbing has disappeared? Too bad you can't feel that at all, because he's only about 3 inches (8,5 centimeters) long and weighs a mere 2 ounces (60 grams).

    First check-up

I had my first check-up on March 11th. It went very well. The exam was relatively painless and I really liked the nurse practicioner that I saw. Best of all, I found out that the bad mid-wife that screwed up Kendall's delivery is not going to be there in September so I don't have to worry about her being on call! WOO HOO!
The NP decided to put in for a cardiology consult for me based on what happened with Kendall. She just wants a baseline so that if I start having problems again then we will have something to go off of. I am glad that she is playing it safe.
The baby's heartbeat remained in the 170's still leading me to believe that it is a girl!
My weight is 115. I have gained a pound so I guess that is good!
    Next appt is April 11.

    Thursday, March 6, 2008

I am writing today to fill up my mind with positive things instead of worrisome! I am feeling much better in regards to nausea. Still pretty tired but hey Kendall tired me out when I wasn't pregnant! I am looking forward to getting my initial appt out of the way on Tuesday and of course hearing the sweet music of our baby's heartbeat again which I am hoping will reassure me after my fall last weekend. I find myself wishing that we could jump ahead to find out what the baby is but I know that only time will tell!

    Monday, February 11, 2008

We saw the baby for the first time today. Little shrimp was about an inch long with a super strong heartbeat. The rate was 189. Ben got to be there for it so that was pretty special. I will be seen on March 11 for my initial physical and exam. We will see how that goes. Unfortunately, the midwife that I had so many problems with is still there. I am going to broach that subject at my appt as well. Keep praying for us :-)

    Frustrated

*Weight= 111 pounds (Really tired of being unable to eat to feed this crazy baby!)
*I have now called 5 times in the last 3.5 weeks to schedule my initial visit (at 12 weeks along) to be told that they don't have the March calendar. GRRRR.....I guess we will try for #6 on Friday!

    Feeling better

I am starting to come out of this cold funk. So thankful for that!! I am trying to schedule my initial exam but they keep telling me to call back on another date. Little bit frustrated with that but I am trying to be a little flexible. It should be the second week of March.

    Tuesday, January 22, 2008

    blah!

So nausea set in yesterday.....not sure if it is here to stay like my pregnancy with Kendall but it is just as miserable. I am starting out 10 pounds lighter with this pregnancy so losing a lot of weight like I did with Kendall is not optimal. Please pray that I snap out of this. The end product is so worth it but while you are going through the miserable phase there really isn't anything that makes you feel better.

    Thursday, January 17, 2008

Yesterday I made the appointment for my OB class and first ultrasound. It will be on February 11th at 0830. I will be excited to see this little peanut for the first time.
I had a good laugh today as 2 of my friends at Kendall's kindermusik class asked me if I was losing weight......ha,ha! The way that my appetite is going it is going to be just the opposite :-) I think that I am going to keep those pants and sweater on hand when I am feeling fat though!

    Starting weight

114 pounds and I am starving most of the time so I expect that will go up in the upcoming months!!

    Tuesday, January 15, 2008

    Surprises

Ben came home excited today. I guess he likes surprise congratulations. He hasn't really told anyone at his squadron about the baby because he thinks that it is fun to get congrats when you least expect it. He got quite a few of those today so I know that he liked it :-)
He also was poking my belly last night when we were laying down saying"hey baby" Too cute! I think that it is so much better to have the boy's reaction than the girls!

    The official word

I took my urine test at my family care clinic today. I of course had another positive. I will be scheduling a class through naval then I will begin the process of my visits there. (Funny how it changes in the little time since I had Kendall!)
I am following in my sister-in-law's footsteps again. Sarah is pregnant with their third right now. Our niece, Gabby, and Kendall were only 3 months apart & that is what the situation is looking like again for us. It is always fun to be pregnant with someone esp. when it is family!
I am feeling great. Just a little bit more tired than usual and I have been craving bananas. I don't know what it is with these kiddos making me want food that normally I wouldn't eat! At least it is not hot dogs this time like with Kendall!

    Pregnancy test

I couldn't wait any longer so early this morning I took a pregnancy test while Ben was still sleeping. Low and Behold it was positive. I guess our newest journey will be that of parenthood again. We are both very excited. I am approximately 6 weeks along and with my calculations should be due about September 18th. I will of course verify the test tomorrow at my PCM so that they can send me to OB.

We have been telling Kendall all day that there is a baby sister or brother in mommy's belly but obviously the concept is a little vague for her right now! Stay tuned for our progress as we go along.
